Kalista

The mechanic

Kalista hands her support a Black Spear that binds them as her Oathsworn. Her ultimate then pulls that ally to her, holds them untargetable for up to four seconds, and lets them choose where to dash out and knock up enemies. If they choose nothing, they are thrown at maximum range.

Why it needs saying

Two actions from the ally, click the spear then aim the exit, and neither is obvious to anyone who has never played with a Kalista. Without a word, the ultimate ends up throwing the support into the enemy team.

When you play them

  1. team chat

    what you type

    take the spear

    in full english

    Take the spear.

    the context

The spear appears in the support's inventory and they have to click it, like Thresh's lantern. Without that click Kalista's ultimate has nobody to pull, and many supports do not know that.

  2. team chat

    what you type

    ulting you jump when ready

    in full english

I'm ulting you, jump when you're ready.

    the context

"jump" is the exit: the ally pulled to Kalista picks where they come out by clicking, within four seconds. If they do nothing, they are thrown straight ahead at maximum range, usually the wrong place.

When an ally plays them

  1. team chat

    what you type

    kalista ult me i engage

    in full english

Kalista, ult me and I'll engage.

    the context

The support is the one engaging, with the knock-up on the way out. Asking in advance gives Kalista the timing: she can only pull her ally within 1200 units.

When an enemy plays them

  1. team chat

    what you type

kill kalista sup her ult is a knockup

    in full english

Kill Kalista's support, her ultimate is a knock-up.

    the context

Kalista's ultimate pulls her support to her and launches him into your team with a knock-up. Without her support in range, she has no ultimate at all.
