Nilah

The mechanic

Nilah's passive rewards the ally standing next to her: whenever she kills a minion, she and the nearest allied champion within 1000 units recover half the experience they would have lost by sharing. And whenever a nearby ally heals or shields her or themselves with an ability, both get a bonus on top.

Why it needs saying

An adc asking their support to stay glued to them and not go place vision goes against everything the support has learned. Without a word, they roam on reflex, and the lane loses the levels Nilah is supposed to give it.

When you play them

  1. team chat

    what you type

stay close you get xp with me

    in full english

Stay close, you get experience with me.

    the context

"xp" is short for experience. On any other lane, a support who sticks to their adc loses experience. With Nilah it is the reverse: every minion she kills gives back half of what sharing costs both of them. The support has to stay within 1000 units, not go off placing wards.

  2. team chat

    what you type

    shield me not you

    in full english

    Shield me, not yourself.

    the context

A shield cast by a nearby ally is amplified for both, and so is a heal. It only works with abilities, not with items or summoners. An enchanter support who knows this puts their shields on Nilah the moment she trades.

When an ally plays them

  1. team chat

    what you type

    nilah farm i stay near

    in full english

    Nilah, farm, I'm staying near.

    the context

The reply of a support who understands the passive. Staying next to her while she farms is not laziness: it is the fastest way to raise both levels in the lane.

When an enemy plays them

  1. team chat

    what you type

poke nilah she wants to be close

    in full english

Poke Nilah, she wants to be close.

    the context

Nilah is a short-range marksman who feeds on her nearby support's heals and shields. Keeping her at range cuts both: she can neither farm nor benefit from her passive.
