gg vs ez

Respect. "gg" closes a game politely, "ez" mocks the losers. You can say one without the other, and you should.

gg

"gg", good game, is the end-of-game line, said by both sides, winners and losers alike. With "wp" after it, it is a real compliment. Without, it is minimal courtesy. Typing it before the end, on the other hand, is a surrender in disguise.

ez

"ez", easy, gets typed after a win to say it was easy. It is a taunt, and it is received as one: the game client even swaps it for a friendly phrase when you send it to the enemy team. "gg ez" stacks the two and cancels the first.

Why they get mixed up

They arrive at the same moment, on the same line, often in the same message. But "gg ez" is not a "gg" with one word added: it is an "ez" holding a "gg" hostage. If you want to be polite, "gg wp" is enough. If you want to mock, accept that "ez" is only funny to you.
