Words of the role
- drake
The dragon in the bottom river pit. Grants stacking bonuses to the whole team.
- baron
Baron Nashor, the major neutral objective. Its three minute buff gives the team bonus damage, a faster recall, and makes nearby minions far more dangerous.
- jgl
The jungler: the player farming neutral camps between the lanes and ganking.
- ward
A placed item that reveals an area of the map. Also used as a verb: "ward baron".
- top
The top lane, and the player on it. The most isolated lane on the map.
- herald
The Rift Herald, a neutral monster you can release to charge into towers.
- group
Bringing the team together in one place, usually before an objective or a fight.
- grubs
The three void grubs that sit in the baron pit from the eighth minute. Each kill makes your attacks burn towers; all three also summon voidmites that help push them.
- tower
The defensive structures on each lane. Taking them is how a lead turns into map control.
- bot
The bottom lane, where the ADC and support play together. The only two-player lane.
- care
Be careful. The default warning word of LoL chat.
- gank
A surprise attack on an enemy lane, usually by the jungler, to create a numbers advantage.
- invade
Entering the enemy jungle, usually at the very start, to steal camps or catch the enemy jungler.
- leash
Helping the jungler kill their first camp at the start of the game, so they finish it faster and healthier.
- push
Killing the minion wave fast so it advances towards the enemy tower. The opposite of freezing.
- up
Available, ready to use. Said of a spell, a summoner or an objective. The opposite of down.
- aggro
The attention of a tower, a monster or a minion wave: whoever it is attacking. Also playing aggressively.
- b
Go back to base. Repeated as "b b b", it is an urgent warning: disengage now.
Champion pages for this role
- Cho'GathCho'Gath's ultimate devours a target and gives him a permanent stack of bonus health, but only six stacks can come from minions and small monsters. Past that, every stack has to come from a champion or an epic monster, so his team has to leave him the last hit on drake, herald and baron.
- FiddlesticksFiddlesticks' ultimate channels for 1.5 seconds, then blinks him 800 units into the fight with a storm of crows around him. It only works if nobody sees him coming: his team has to wait, not engage early, and not draw the enemy out of the landing spot.
- KarthusAfter dying, Karthus keeps casting for seven seconds without being able to move. His ultimate hits every enemy on the map after a three second channel, but only if he starts it within the first four seconds of that window.
- KindredKindred's ultimate creates a zone where nobody can drop below 10% health for four seconds, allies and enemies alike. When it ends, everyone still inside is healed for 225 to 375. Allies have to stay in, and should not expect to kill anyone until it is over.
- MordekaiserMordekaiser's ultimate drags one enemy into a separate realm for seven seconds, where nobody else can see them, reach them or help either of them. His team plays a four versus four while he duels, and steals 10% of the target's stats for the duration.
- NocturneNocturne's ultimate darkens every enemy's screen wherever they are, and lets him fly to one of them from a long way off: 2500 to 4000 units depending on rank, not the whole map.
- SylasSylas copies an enemy ultimate and casts it himself. He can take it whether or not it has been cast, whether or not it is on cooldown, so the team has to play as if he already had it.
- ZacWhen Zac dies he splits into four bloblets that reform into him after four to eight seconds. If all four are killed first, he stays dead. The passive has a five minute cooldown, and his allies are the only thing standing between the blobs and the enemies.
