Words of the role
- mid
The middle lane, and by extension the player on it. The shortest lane, so the quickest to rotate from.
- oom
Out of mana. No spells available, so no fight possible.
- prio
Lane priority: being able to leave your lane first, because you are pushing and your opponent cannot follow.
- cover
Holding a lane for an ally who is away, or protecting a player while they do something.
- flash
The summoner spell that blinks you a short distance. The single most important cooldown to track in a game.
- pls
Please. Turns any order into a request, which is the difference between being listened to and being ignored.
- ss
The enemy on that lane is out of sight and could show up anywhere. It is a warning, not a status update.
- ward
A placed item that reveals an area of the map. Also used as a verb: "ward baron".
Champion pages for this role
- AniviaWhen Anivia takes fatal damage she turns into an egg for six seconds. If the egg survives, she comes back. The passive has a four minute cooldown, so her team has to know whether protecting the egg is possible at all.
- GalioGalio's ultimate picks an ally up to 4000 to 5500 units away and lands on them 2.75 seconds later, knocking back the enemies around and shielding the allies in the area. The target has to hold position until he lands.
- KarthusAfter dying, Karthus keeps casting for seven seconds without being able to move. His ultimate hits every enemy on the map after a three second channel, but only if he starts it within the first four seconds of that window.
- KassadinKassadin is deliberately weak early and becomes one of the strongest champions in the game once he has levels and items. His team has to survive rather than fight.
- KayleKayle is among the weakest champions in the game before level eleven and among the strongest after sixteen. Her team plays around surviving that gap.
- PantheonPantheon's ultimate launches him across a large part of the map, so he can reach a fight that looked impossible to join.
- RyzeRyze's ultimate opens a portal. After a two second channel, Ryze and every ally standing inside the circle are teleported up to 3000 units away. Allies have to step in before the channel ends, or stay out if they do not want to go.
- SylasSylas copies an enemy ultimate and casts it himself. He can take it whether or not it has been cast, whether or not it is on cooldown, so the team has to play as if he already had it.
- Twisted FateTwisted Fate's ultimate reveals the entire enemy team wherever they are, then teleports him up to 5500 units away, about a third of the map, after a 1.5 second channel.
- VeigarVeigar's power grows permanently, with no ceiling. Given time, he ends up stronger than anything else on the map.
- ViktorViktor upgrades his abilities with stacks from minion and monster kills. A cannon minion is worth several regular ones, which makes every stolen cannon expensive.
- YasuoYasuo's ultimate can only be cast on an enemy who is airborne within 1400 units. Knock-ups, knock-backs and pulls all count, and most of them come from his allies, who have to land and time their crowd control for him.
- ZileanZilean's ultimate marks an ally for five seconds. If they take fatal damage while marked, they come back three seconds later with 600 to 1100 health. The mark only pays off if the ally keeps fighting instead of running.
